Going on holiday is usually the highlight of everyone’s year. You can either choose to buy a ready-made holiday package from websites and travel companies like Transun, or you can simply arrange the trip yourself. If you are going for the latter, it might serve you to seek out those flights that won’t put such a dent in your bank account. Here are some tips to help you achieve this.
How flexible are you
The first thing to ask yourself is how flexible you are. Why? Simply because the more flexible you are with your timings, the easier it will be for you to find affordable flights. This flexibility refers to several things, not least where you are going and when. For summer holidays you’ll generally find that flights are cheaper when you take them off-season. In other words, avoid the high summer months of July and August, as well as late June and early September, and you should be able to find some far cheaper airfares, no matter where you are going.
Can you Book Early
Another question to ask yourself will be whether you can book early or not. Of course, if your holiday is more of a last-minute thing, this may not be possible. If, however, you have time to think and plan, you should be able to lock in some cheaper prices by booking your flight well ahead of time. In general, look to book at least 3 weeks before you leave but, ideally, try to make it a lot longer. The longer you have to search, as well, the more chance you’ll have of stumbling across flights that are ultra-cheap.
How About the Time of Day, and Day of The Week
Another important factor to consider will be exactly when you fly, not in terms of the time of year and the month, but the specific day and, to be even more precise, the time of day. You’ll quickly notice as you search for flights that weekdays, primarily Tuesdays through Thursdays, are cheaper than weekend flights that leave and return on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Moreover, it’s important to consider the exact time of your flight as well. Flights that leave during antisocial hours, such as early in the morning, will be cheaper than those that leave during the afternoon or early evening. Once more, the differences in price for different days of the week and different times of day should quickly become apparent to you as your search.
Book a Package Deal
There are many travel companies out there, such as Transun, that take all of the hassles away from the consumer, allowing you to book entire holidays as part of a single package. Depending on the company, this may help you save money in total, with the flights, accommodation, and activities included in the package being cheaper than if you were to pay for them all separately. In particular, all-inclusive packages to popular beach resorts in and around Europe will often come very cheap, especially if you book them during the low season, or at least towards the beginning or the end of the high summer season.
